About Me
I worked for almost twenty years in the corporate world, first as a management consultant to Fortune 500 companies, and then at a large research university as a program director and adjunct faculty member. In addition to homeschooling my two sons, I write regularly about education and parenting issues.

Hi Lori. You have a great topic for the conference. I have a subtype for the part time online school topic: online homeschool co-op. It is similar to what a local co-op, but is online and isn't limited to the local geographical area. That is what Virtual Homeschool Group is. Next year will be the project's 10th year. The classes are free; though, donations are welcome in the summer. Donations play for our Collaborate online classroom and Moodle server. All of us that teach, train, build courses, and administrate the project are volunteers and most are home school parents. The project is at http://www.virtualhomeschoolgroup.com/. I would love to see this type of a parent co-operative get mentioned and encouraged. I would love to see more of them out there instead of just ours. I think it is a splendid idea that takes just a bit more techy-ness and pulling it all together up-front, but the reach and re-usability of what is built really is a terrific long-term investment of time and talent for those that volunteer. The combination of convenience of the online courses but with no tuition is a big win for families especially if the commercial offerings are beyond the family's budget. If you have any questions, contact me, Tammy Moore at teacher.tammy.moore@gmail.com :0)
