    About Me

Madelyn Shackelford Washington came to librarianship after 13 years as a professional performing artist. While gaining experience working in reference and bibliographic instruction at California State University in Los Angeles, Ms. Washington developed a passion for information literacy, thus, inspiring her to start a career in information provision. In her last position as a metadata specialist in the Digital Library Program at Indiana University in Bloomington, she gained expertise in areas of digital project management, metadata generation, and Semantic Web technology application. Her research foci are: music, metadata generation, and managing information in digital environments for poverty eradication. As assistant librarian, she fuses her knowledge of emerging technologies with reference services to implement collaborative efforts and strategies for building bridges between diverse groups on campus and the library community.
